This is an open-source photo from the Imperial War Museum’s collection. It’s great seeing photos like this being made available online under relaxed licences. I’d like to see more of the IWM’s photos and documents released under similar terms.
This is photograph No. FL 9948 from the Imperial War Museum collection No. 8308-29. This artistic work created by the United Kingdom Government is in the public domain.
This is because it is one of the following:
It is a photograph created by the United Kingdom Government and taken prior to 1 June 1957; or
HMSO has declared that the expiry of Crown Copyrights applies worldwide (ref: HMSO

Tree of Lost Things
September 13th, 2010 · No Comments
I was listening to Mike Harding’s Folk on 2 podcast on the way into work this. It was a look back at the summer’s festivals. At the Cambridge Folk Festival this year they had a Tree of Lost Things. People wrote thing they’ve lost or things that are missing from their life onto brown luggage tags which they than hung from the tree’s branches.
What a great idea.

Tell Your Story workshops
July 28th, 2010 · No Comments
In Boulder, Colorado, 50 or so students are attending the "Tell Your Story" program at the new Visual Arts Complex at CU. The eight-day program wraps up July 29 with an exhibit of the students’ work. 30 of the digital storytellers aren’t native English speakers.
I think digital storytelling is a great ice breaker when it comes to integrating diverse sections of a community:

Pocomoke digital storytelling workshop
July 27th, 2010 · No Comments
Where: Maryland USA - Delmarva Discovery Center on the Pocomoke River in Pocomoke. 2 W. Market St. near Pocomoke’s downtown.
When: July 28, 10am-4pm
Libraries in Worcester and Somerset counties are partnering with the Delmarva Discovery Center to record the unique stories at a July 28 session. Stories that offer a look at the region before technology changed the lifestyles of its residents are especially welcomed. Organizers also want to document and record childhood stories or other memories that natives of the region want to share during a special taping. Participants also should bring along documents or photographs related to their stories.
The project was made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, and recordings will be compiled and included in a Digital Storytelling Project conducted by libraries in the two counties.
