Slate quarrymen’s digital stories

August 10th, 2009 · No Comments

I’d had a sneak preview of some Llanberis slate stories at #DS4; today
I visited the National Slate Musem in Llanberis which is marking 40
years since the closure of Dinorwig Quarry by showing old photos and
projecting digital stories created in an intergenerational project
where local schoolchildren recorded old quarrymen’s memories,
facilitated by Rhian Cadwaladr and Gwion Llwyd of Cadwyd, amongst
others. The resulting digital stories are an important document of an
industry which was as vital to north-west Wales as coal was to south
and north-east Wales. Let’s hope these stories will be able to be
shown to a wider audience too, beyond the museum.
